Revelations 13

The beast that rises up out of the sea in this chapter could represent something in our time, but probably represents the Roman Empire in John's time. Another beast rises that is like unto the lamb. It is given great power, worships the dragon who is the devil, and is able to do many miracles. As was the custom of the day, slaves were marked in the palm of the hand or in the head to show their complete dedication and devotion to their masters. Those of this kingdom who follow Satan are marked in the same way with the number 666 which is short of the number 7. We do not know the significance of the 666 number. There is a marked division of the righteous and wicked in these chapters.
